Environmental Factors

Reef Chaser Charters believes in finding a balanced approach to enjoying the natural splendor provided by the Caribbean islands. We encourage visitors to respect and protect the environment for everyone's continued enjoyment. Please consider the chemical products you use, reef-safe sunscreen has been legally mandated on the Virgin Islands. Whether you bring it with you or buy it here, make sure the ONLY active ingredients are Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide (non-nano). Keep the beaches beautiful and don't harm the animals by leaving trash behind you. We also encourage your participation in reducing the harmful impact of invasive species. If you sight a Lionfish during your time in the water, do NOT approach them, as they are highly venomous! You can contact 1-833-774-2673, to report the location you see these fish and volunteer responders will safely remove them. Land Transportation

Trying to get here from there? or vice-versa? Book your taxi in advance! Many taxi drivers will not come to Coral Bay. Jamari Powell (340-244-0712) is my go-to guy. Friendly and reliable, if he can't take you personally he will find someone to make sure you aren't stuck waiting. If you are feeling more adventurous, there is a local bus (air-conditioned) for $2. The schedule is not often reliable (supposed to be hourly) and they do NOT run on weekends. Some people even hitch a ride! We don't use a thumb around here though; you gotta point which way you are going.

Etiquette

Visiting the Virgin Islands is like stepping back in time, although we just call it island time around here. Grab a cool drink, take a deep breath, and imagine yourself in a quaint 1900's, rural town. Manners and patience are very well received around here. Greet the residents before getting down to business. "GOOD DAY" is the preferred acknowledgement before requesting information or services. Another very important consideration is attire. While we love soaking up the sun on our beaches, please remember to show respect by wearing shirts and cover-ups once you've left the beach and especially before entering business establishments. Finally, it is very likely that these islands may not have the same amenities you might be used to at home. The island of St. John is 70% national park and just about as remote as you can get, that is why we are here!
